VIVID will feature artworks from across the country that are exceptionally vibrant, bold, loud, and/or brilliant in color and/or composition. We want to fill the gallery with explosive color and artworks that demand the viewer’s attention – loud, in your face artworks! This is a juried exhibition, and it will be co-curated by Gallery Director Amanda Bradley, and Exhibition Juror and artist, Heather Bryant-Warnalis. The 9th Annual NEON Festival will take place on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18, 2024 from 6-10pm in Norfolk’s first official arts district, the NEON District. The d’Art Center will participate in NEON Festival during the VIVID Opening Reception from 5 – 8:30pm (our schedule at The Center TBA!) The NEON Festival is a free two evening event that encourages visitors to explore and discover the NEON District. The festival celebrates the energy in NEON and draws from the passion and creativity in Downtown and the region. Anchored by the Chrysler Museum of Art and Harrison Opera House and extending to The Plot on Granby Street, the NEON District includes many creative small businesses and arts partners that contribute to the festivities. Find out more on The NEON District’s website.

Kim’s Krusade Brunch & Auction

Please join us in celebrating Kim’s life, legacy, and non-profit at d’Art Center on Sunday, October 27th from 11am – 1pm for mimosas, brunch bites, and a silent auction to raise money for Paint Pink: her non-profit. Kim was originally diagnosed in 2017 with breast cancer. As an artist Kim wanted to utilize her skills and the art community to create an organization that supports the financial costs associated with cancer. Kim created Paint Pink Inc. to support additional services outside of treatment so that those living with cancer can focus on getting healthy without the stress of everyday life situations. Art has always been at the forefront of Kim’s life. Since she was young, she always knew art was her passion and went on to college and majored in art, kick-starting her career as a professional artist. When Kim was first diagnosed with cancer, she battled it by focusing on her art passion to bring her peace and purpose during her treatment. She’d dive into the paint and become one with the canvas. For her, brushstrokes were calming and color-rejuvenating. When Kim’s cancer returned for a second round, she knew what she needed to do to help her heal: PAINT. Devastatingly, in the last few months Kim found out that she was no longer “just” fighting breast cancer – her cancer had metastasized and had spread throughout her body and her brain. On September 16th, Kim passed away. Paint Pink epitomizes Kim, who was always giving of herself and caring about others. Paint Pink meant SO MUCH to Kim. Please support her legacy by helping Paint Pink continue its mission.
