Summer Invitational ~ Connections
Be inspired by d’ART’s extraordinary new exhibition Connections. This multi-faceted Summer Invitational Art Exhibition features local artists, local celebrities and regional artist Judy Goodkind, from July 11- August 31, 2008.
Check out the Connections Opening Reception video, held Friday, July 11, 2008, 6-8 pm with a FREE Beer Tasting Reception by the St. George Brewing Company and Samuel Adams Brewery. Art Patrons and Beer lovers alike enjoyed a mix of hot art, a splash of cool flavors and sassy sounds of Jim Newsom Quartet.
Connections – shows how art connects all; and demonstrates the power of connections, both familiar and extraordinary. "Through art we are able to come to understand that everything is connected. And with that recognition barriers are removed and relationships and respect begin." says Susan Bernard, Executive Director of the d’ART Center.
A special feature to this summer’s exhibition is Painting with the Stars featuring 6 unique collaborative artworks pairing d’ART Center artists and Hampton Roads Stars.
Each Painting with the Stars team conceptualized and created a collaborative, one-of-a-kind artwork connecting both their styles and interests through the creative process.
The Painting with the Stars artwork will open for bidding in a silent auction held during the exhibition July 11 - August 31, 2008.

Artist Judy Goodkind, from Alexandria VA, connects human form and animal form in her artwork. Her collages reflect her subtle, oftentimes quirky, and sometimes dark sense of humor. Working with found images Goodkind builds witty highly imaginative images from widely disparate sources. Seamlessly integrating cutouts and paint, she creates what one critic has described as "logical presentations of illogical reality". Her visual allusions range from epochs of art history. They are brainteasers and invitations to puzzle solving. She has exhibited extensively through the mid-Atlantic region.
