20th Mid-Atlantic on exhibit 'til June 27, 2010
d'ART's Mid-Atlantic is a great chance for Downtowners to get a taste of today's art scene as the show spotlights artwork from the far corners of the USA including California, Montana, Texas, Illinois and of course the Mid-Atlantic states.
The d'ART Center is proud to announce the winners of the 20th Annual Mid-Atlantic Art Exhibition. This prestigious show is a national competition and gives the d'ART Center an opportunity to recognize excellence in contemporary fine art. This year 487 artworks were submitted by artists for 19 states across the country. Of those 55 were selected from 29 artists for this exhibit making this a highly competitive exhibit.
Laura Roulet, a major independent curator in the Washington D.C.area, had the very difficult job of narrowing the field to 55 pieces and selecting the award winners. With a competitive body of 2-D and 3-D artwork on display presenting sponsor BB&T's Vice President Laura Cantrell awarded the following $3,200 in prizes. 20th Annual Mid-Atlantic Art Exhibition Award Winners:

The 2010 juror, Curator Laura Roulet is an art historian, independent curator and writer who specializes in contemporary and Latin American art. Ms. Roulet has organized exhibitions at the OAS Museum, Mexican Cultural Institute, the Museum of Puerto Rican Art , Edison Place Gallery, Project 4, Fusebox, and the District of Columbia Art Center . She has also worked with the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden , including contributing to the retrospective exhibition entitled "Ana Mendieta: Earth Body, Sculpture and Performance 1972-1985" which represents the most comprehensive survey of the artist's works to date. She is also the author of Contemporary Puerto Rican Installation Art: The Guagua Aerea, the Trojan Horse and the Termite, a book which explores dynamic aspects of Puerto Rican art today.
