Summer Invitational Art Exhibition ~ NOT Black & White
Each summer the d'ART Center invites area artists to participate in a themed art exhibition. This year's theme is NOT Black & White ~ offering artists with a multitude of artistic interpretations. The exhibition is on display in the d'ART Center's five sky-lit galleries from July 10 - August 31, 2009.
The d'ART Center kicks off this fun Summer Invitational on Friday, JULY 10, 2009 from 6-8PM with and opening party. The Opening Party features great ARTWORK, hot JAZZ by the Jim Newsom Quartet & a cool BEER TASTING!
This event is FREE & OPEN to the public.
The purpose of this exhibit is to explore relationships; demonstrating how even those things that seem to be opposite are in fact related; to examine the concept that nature works on a continuum; that things that appear to be in conflict are connected by degrees and gradations in ways sometimes not easily recognized.
Thinking and perceiving in ‘either/or' options limit both possibilities and outcome. Not Black and White can demonstrate that possibilities are limitless.
In art, seemingly differing concepts can be related by shadings of color, mergings of forms and softening of edges. Not Black and White challenges artists to present differing relationships and connections that lead to new understanding.
Not Black and White is open to interpretation that are artistic, political, environmental, cultural, decorative, individual and more. The artwork can be specific and/or universal in its content. The challenge is to be as creative in presentation and expression as possible. The goal of the exhibit is to present work which will be thoughtful, provocative, instructive, and engaging; to show how art connects; and to demonstrate the power of connections, both familiar and extraordinary.
