Abracadabra - The Magic of ART - September 27

The d’ART Center’s Annual Gala Art Auction, a Hampton Roads favorite fundraiser for over 25 years now, is on Saturday, September, 27, 2008!

Conjure Abracadabra! THE MAGIC of ART, the d’ART Center at the Selden will transform into an intriguing site of illusion, mystery, and enchantment. So, come, unveil your creative senses and explore exciting silent auction items and packages, dynamic cuisine and powerful pieces of art.

This year’s Gala reveals ’two tricks up its sleeve’ for an even more memorable evening: 1) changing to Saturday night from its traditional Friday night, 2) special performance by d’ART Center Board Member, Mike Sears~ a nationally known entertainer whose stunning magic effects are integrated with his fantastic humor. Following this special performance, the Live Auction continues the magic @ 8:30p.m., presenting finely mastered artwork, tempting everyone’s desire for intense, hypnotic bidding!

As you may know, the d’ART Center is a unique facility in the heart of downtown Norfolk, FREE and open to the public, where 41 visual artists create and sell original fine art.  Year ‘round, the d’ART Center offers guided studio tours for students, civic groups and tourists, art classes for children and adults, interactive art demonstrations for the public and exhibits of works by regionally and nationally recognized artists.

While the Center receives grant money from the state and city for help with operating expenses, it is dependent on fundraising efforts for many of its core programs.  Funds generated specifically by the Gala Auction will provide continuing support for the following programs in 2008-2009:

•    d’ART Smart Educational Outreach Art Program for inner city children and at risk youth

•    Free Studio/Gallery tours for Elementary Students

•    Free Saturday hands-on Art Demonstrations for children and adults

•    Efforts to increase awareness of d’ART Center mission through art exhibits and activities
